That Thing is may be called Imitator from now... I'll explain: this thing usually formless, but when it sees your deepest fear, it imitates this fear, or a person with whom the fear associated. It feeds on your fear and suffering. Grows. Becomes more powerfull. It learns. Study it's victim, and imitated person. The more it' learns about you - the better imitates and finds more new ways to scare...
But often it may not imitate, because it's already creepy.

What if you don't have a deepest fear, or you don't know what it is at the very least? I ask because I don't actually know what mine is, so what would the Imitator do with someone like me?

Hmmm... If it'll didn't see your fear (and it will search thoroughly) it'll probably just kill the victim violently and slowly, because it'll bring pain and suffering, and that's what it needs to feed itself. And if it's happened - why not eat meat too... Like, why leave so much food to waste... And also hide evidence. }: ?
